I would like more information on both racing and cruising - (when and where you
meet, on what days and so on). I am a beginner at sailing - which means that I
have never stepped foot on a sailing vessel while it was underway. However, I
have operated many power boats in my day and I do have my boaters card. What
I'm really trying to say is that I do have experience on the water....just not
on a sailboat.
My main reason for wanting to do this is that I am interested in buying a 40 or
50 foot sailboat and sailing ... pretty much all over the world ...someday.
Which is why I want to help crew a boat - not only to learn the different parts
of a sailboat, but also to see how well I'm going to like it.

I have Skippered in the Harvest Moon regatta over several years and will Co
skipper the Regatta de Amigos to Veracruz, Mexico this year. Along with my

the complete refurbishment of the Islander sailboat including the re-wiring of
the electrical system including an A/C Generator and the re-building of the

opportunity to crew on many types of boats out on the San Francisco Bay. For 10
years I had my own Venture 24' that I used on the bay and many lakes near the
Bay area. I started my sailing career at 8 years old after buying an El Toro and
working through a Sailfish and FJ until I purchased the Venture 24 from
Stanford. I got some off-shore experience on a week long Stanford sponsored trip

Comments: I recently moved to PDX from Cleveland, Ohio where I have
been a competitive racer for 9 years. (Member of NCWSA and CSA) I am most
comfortable as a down wind sail trimmer (kickname fly girl...) and pit, but
having owned a Tartan 27, I am used to helming, trimming, foredeck, etc.

Comments: I'm dying to get on the water! Beggars cannot be choosers,
but my preference would be a smaller boat.
Short Experience: Raced a short while in San Diego (Capri 25 / Bay and Blue
Water racing). I flew the spinnaker as well as helped with trim work and pit. I
really miss the camaraderie and adrenalin rushes of the racing experience.
Side Benefits: I will be moving to Sydney the end of Summer, so crew will get
the added benefit of Sydney homestay! I plan to spend a lot of time on the
water there, so I need a quick summer crash course! I always show up with
enticing beverages and munchies.
I am self-employed, so my flexible schedule varies week to week depending on

Comments: I live in St. Johns, so I am close to the Columbia, and may

I have attended the OWSA Women's racing series for the past two years. My
skills have never become polished, because I have never consisitently crewed on
one boat. I am determined to become an excellent sailor, regardless of how long
it takes me to do so.
My ultimate dream is blue water cruising, but I need to learn a lot more about
boats before then, and I am willing to put in the time and effort it takes to
become a good racing crew in the meantime. I have also sailed dinghies, such as
the FJ, Lido 14, Thistle. I weigh 250, so I am very good rail meat. I would
like to learn foredeck, but my only experience at jibing a spinnaker is a few
times on the Thistle, but I know that this is a valuable position, and am
willing to spend the time to learn it for a skipper who is willing to invest the
time in training me.
Once again, I am getting a late start this season. I had "cleared the deck" due
to my board duties for OWSA. But now my time had freed up and I can go
sailing. I have a very flexible schedule, and so I am available for daytime
sails, deliveries, etc. (Maybe even painting and varnishing if you ask me
nicely;)

situation. I have boat maintenance skills and I'm willing to help with chores
and fees. I had a boat on the Chesapeake that I cruised, raced and just

Comments: I selected "Rail Meat" because even though I've
sailed for three years and have sailed in blue water along the WA coast, I
suffer from arthritis and don't have the strength I used to. ISO captain with
boat here in Portland/ Vancouver area. I love being on the water! Teach me to
